Opera Backup
I started out by making Opera Editor for Opera Browser because there was no central editor for the INI files, and I needed a fast backup of my emails and settings in Opera. Now Opera 9 is on the worktable, and the previews show how they have created a feature "opera:config" which allows advanced editing of those INI files, so I decided to do away with Opera Editor and created Opera Backup. Its focus is on backup and restore, only faster and easier. It is in the beta stage right now, so if you have any suggestions contact me and I'll look in to it.
How do I move my existing Opera data to a new installation?
Install the new version of Opera in a new directory and start it once to create the default files. Now with Opera Backup's Auto Setup - make a auto setup of the existing Opera and the new Opera installation. Next Backup the existing Opera Installation by choosing the existing Opera version in Opera Backups field "Choose Opera Version to backup or restore to:" and then click the Backup button. Now change the Opera version("Choose Opera Version to backup or restore to:") and Select the backup zip you just made in the drop down box named "Choose the Opera zip to restore:" select the Mail, Contact, etc.. and click the Restore button. Don't do a Restore All on a new installation it defeats the purpose in doing a new installation.
My Installation isn't backing up some of the files?
There are 3 parameters to the setup. If you did the Auto Setup you will not need to do this.
- "Opera Version" - this parameter is filled in for you.
- "Documents and Settings" - this is the directory that opera stores all your settings. Opera typically puts this in "C:\Documents and Setting\Your User Name\Application Data\ Opera\Opera", if you have a custom installation, you will need to point to the directory that has the profile and mail folders in it. Not the mail or the profile directory but the one right before it.
- "Program Directory" - this should point to the directory that has your opera.exe file in it. "Typically C:\Program files\Opera".
v0.99.9.1 Added Override checkbox so you can define your own backup directory.
v0.99.9.2 Fixed installation error: tblDefault:field show operaopendialog Not found.
